San Antonio Mastermind | Jeremy McGilvrey
Napoleon Hill, author of the game-changing book Think & Grow Rich stated: You can accomplish more in one year, by being involved with a mastermind group, then you can in a lifetime, not being involved with a mastermind group.
And I’d like to offer you some proof, that that holds true today, more than ever:
6 weeks ago, Yusuf Chowdhury, Jonathan de la Garza , Peter Beshay, and myself(Jeremy McGilvrey) met at 7am on a Saturday morning. And I said something to them like: Have you noticed, that an awful lot of people in San Antonio are working competitively, instead of collectively?
Quickly, we began discussing the benefits of co-creating, and cooperative collaboration. We unanimously agreed that if you’re ever going to do anything significant in this world – you can’t do it by yourself, you have to work with others.
We began to realize that putting like-minded people together and encouraging them to collaborate was our duty. We continued to meet early on Saturday mornings while our vision of San Antonio Mastermind began to take root and unfold.
And in only 6 weeks, we were able to:
Gather hundreds of driven and highly motivated people together.
Begin to brand San Antonio Mastermind by producing this amazing logo.
We launched our website, SAmastermind.com.
And once we started to see the overwhelming response to this event here in San Antonio, we began laying the foundation for Dallas Mastermind, Austin Mastermind, and Houston Mastermind, where 100s of people are waiting for us to take this event to their cities. Which by the way, we’ll be using the blueprint we develop right here in San Antonio, in all these other major cities.
Most importantly, we’ve got T-shirts. Because that’s when you know you’ve really made it big.
You might me thinking to yourself, well… that’s great for yall. But what’s in it for me? How can I benefit from being involved in a mastermind group? And, what exactly is a Mastermind group anyway – because this look of befuddlement – is typically what I get when I ask people about Mastermind groups.
So I’d like to have, none other then “The Father of the Mastermind,” explain this mastermind concept that can literally change your life.
Borrow and use the education and experience from others, accomplish more in one year, then you could in a lifetime, absolute protection against failure. Wow! That’s some pretty powerful stuff.
When I heard Napoleon Hill say the Declaration of Independence was conceived through the Mastermind principle, and that the 56 men who signed the Declaration may have very well been signing their own death warrants, I immediately thought of this quote: Those who have the ability to take action, have the responsibility to take action.
Taking action is the critical to success. And I think if Napoleon Hill were around today, he’d write another book titled: ACT & Grow Rich. Because I’ve learned, if you don’t take action, you fail by default.
The first step of action many people need to take, is to get away from what I call Dream Stealers.
You see, unsuccessful people… have a common denominator.
Unsuccessful people, people who are struggling, are surrounded by people who are trying to steal their dreams. They’re surrounded by people who don’t support them. People who are always telling them they can’t do things, and pointing out all the reasons why their plans won’t work.
Conversely, successful people have the exact opposite. They’re surrounded by people who support their dreams. Who are for them. Who build them up.
You rarely read about this in success books. But if you desire to be successful, you must associate with highly motivated, success-oriented people who are pulling for you. You must surround yourself with like-minded people who believe in you, and build you up. This is a key ingredient to your success. And it is a requirement, if you want to succeed in life.
Andrew Carnegie understood this well. Carnegie understood that the people you surround yourself with don’t only determine who you are, they also determine who you become in life.
Carnegie surround himself with nearly 50 like-minded people. And he regularly met with these people in brainstorming mastermind group sessions.
In his book: The Gospel of Wealth, Carnegie attributes his entire fortune, to the knowledge and support he gained through his mastermind group.
Another key element to being part of a mastermind group is that you can easily shave 5 to 6 years of your learning curve when you tap into others experiences and skills. You can save tons of time and money by learning from other people’s mistakes. I love the quote: An intelligent person learns from their own mistakes, but a genius learns from the mistakes of others.
Probably my favorite part of the mastermind group principle is the synergy that’s created. Steve Covey’s talked about this in his highly influential book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Covey’s 6th habit was: Synergize. And I truly believe this is where the real innovation takes place, when we build on each other’s ideas.
Something that many business owners fail to realize is: When you’re in the jar, you can’t read the label. You need help from someone who’s on the outside. That’s why one of the greatest benefits to being involved with a mastermind group is that you can have your own peer advisory board. These are people who can look at your business from a different vantage point, they can give you an outside perspective. This goes along with my coaching advice, which is: You simply can’t improve yourself – by yourself. Because when you’re in the picture, you can’t see the frame.
You may be wondering: If mastermind groups are so beneficial, why don’t more people participate in them? Why do mastermind groups seem to be the best kept secret to only the ultra successful people
And the answer I believe is: Many people think that asking for help is a sign of weakness. They don’t realize it’s really a sign of wisdom.
I’ve seen too many people, struggle with their business because they were afraid to ask for help with the things that really mattered. I’ve seen too many businesses fail, that shouldn’t have!, all because they lacked the support they needed
That needs to end tonight!
All of us need to take a big sigh of relief and say: “I’m going to stop trying to do this on my own.
Because it takes teamwork – to make the dream work!
